It’s week 7, the mid-term week. Production is working steadily, but according to our initial schedule we weren’t able to put the first scene to render yet due to a few issues that will be fixed this week. Moreover, this week we had something really new this trimester - a digital sculpting club! I will be using this as an opportunity and motivation to work on a personal project as an external contribution to my overall grade.

COLLABORATIONS

Up until now, I organized some extra-curricular activities as part of the Student Council. I was in charge of handling the new SAE_HUB instagram account, which is a student platform apart from the official instagram by SAE.

It was my proposal at the start and so I took on to create various posters, engaging animation posts and running the overall account. I checked with my lecturer if this can be considered as a collaboration and he approached me with another one for his sculpting club. Hence, I worked on another poster for the digital sculpting club. See below.

This club is to run for a month and I am excited for it. I will use this as an opportunity to push myself to work on something bigger and better, to challenge myself to work in Zbrush and advance my modeling skills altogether.

PERSONAL PROJECTS

Moreover, there is a VRAY competition held by Chaos Group that is run for students internationally. They are asking for students to create an “Undiscovered world” through some awesome renders. Since it is another unique opportunity, I wish to take part!

[Edited in Week 11] This is my final submission for the sculpting club and VRAY competition. Despite being overburdened with a lot of tasks, I was able to push through and submit what I promised to in Week 7.

In an "undiscovered" world of mushrooms where roller-coaster rides are the prime form of commuting, this scene takes you into a 'hat' (synonymous of the inside of your brain), as you are immersed in a glorious aquarium of glowing fish. The rest is ambiguous! This idea was inspired by a current studio project - an amalgamation of the ideas that came to be. The concept revolves around an "undiscovered" world created by our minds, inspired by a dark fantasy theme - Alice in Wonderland. It is a world wherein things don't really make sense because it is compiled of the elements that a viewer wishes to see during a "lucid dream".

EXTERNAL WORK

I was also selected to join a bootcamp organized by NOMAD and PHENOMENA PRODUCTIONS. Earlier this trimester, I sent in my portfolio as an application, and was selected to work for a film crew as an art director - something that I aspire to be! It was a great but hectic experience this week as there were classes everyday from 6 to 9 pm. The sessions were intuitive and very eye-opening. We are set to work on a film project that will be showcased to local and international film festivals.

[Edited in Week 9] Due to circumstances and project priorities, I had to drop out of this bootcamp. However, I contributed to the story and set-design as well as created a “Casting Call” Poster for the team.

OTHERS…

Moreover, as a team leader it has been pressurizing to scout for audio collars this trimester. As our project requires good sound design, I had to look for various audio students to collaborate with. I managed to get a couple but it has been hard to find someone for our main track that requires a Jazz instrumental remake of “The Unbirthday Song”. This has squeezed out my time immensely and I must catch up on my progress.

Therefore, I have been managing a couple of different projects all at once, I hope it doesn’t wear me out! I wish to accomplish all of these well and do my best for my current project!
