Evaluation of my Soft Skills
As we are wrapping up with our work (or, supposed to be), it is time to reflect on my performance as a whole within this production team.
I believe I have demonstrated strong work ethics for the most part of this trimester. However, I personally feel after I went on a break (due to some family issues), I was lacking behind tremendously. Due to troubles with communication and network in India, it was also hard for me to keep track of the team's progress, but I trusted they would do it without me. I would ask for frequent updates whenever I had the time and chance to connect to the network, but would always receive a dry reply. Anyhow, I feel my work ethics would need some room for improvement at this stage in this trimester, especially because I had missed a couple of deadlines.
Time management and self confidence has decreased drastically. I have started losing faith in myself and in the project due to various reasons. I would still try my best to look for ways to solve the numerous issues we faced with the rendering time. Hence, my problem solving skills have improved as well as acting as a team player. I have done my best to help ease the work for the team.
My role within the production pipeline
My role within the production pipeline was mainly to be the concept artist, character modeler and sushi modeler. Despite assigning the sushi modeling task to the ones I thought would work well on them, they were handed over to me in week 10 to be remodeled. I had no time but I still prioritized the work and got it done with the right textures. Hence, I feel I have been flexible with adapting to work given to me spontaneously. Below are some rendered images of my sushi models.
Overall Judgement of my Journey through this trimester
Overall, I feel I have lacked some motivation down the line. Particularly because we lost a lot of time at the start of the trimester due to miscommunications and misunderstandings, it was challenging to get back on time with the work. Even though, we pulled it off in the first half of the trimester, once tasks had to be rearranged, reworked on and even switched in leadership roles, it caused us all to slow down drastically.
In general, this trimester has been a very informative one, regardless of the work issues. Gaining a lot of insight into the study of VRAY and other tools and mechanics of 3ds max, it allowed me to increase the speed at which I work. By customizing all of my shortcuts, I've gotten the hang of modeling a bit more productively now.
Moreover, through the challenges and struggles I faced with Zbrush for the character model, I realized that it might have been a terrible move to start in zbrush since I wasn't comfortable using the software. I should've worked on the base structure in 3Ds max and then taken just the head into zbrush to add on the extra details. Learning how to retopologize, unwrap and texture in Zbrush was extremely fun, though. It makes perfect sense why the industry uses Zbrush in its production pipeline. I hope to gain more experience with it in the coming years.
