In Week 4, we were given an idea by our lecturer to film the last waking up scene in 360 rather than having to model a whole new scene and render it for a very simple shot. It will give us more time to focus on the current scenes we have. Therefore, we decided to look into this idea more and here is how we went about it.

Initially, we considered renting 360 cameras. So I looked around, asked a couple of friends too and what we found astonished us. It costs AED 8000/- to rent while they also ask for original documents such as Passports to keep as collateral. Thats not something we can afford. So we looked into other options such as buying 360 degree cameras. There were cameras available for just around AED 400 - 500, which is something we could afford if we split the cash.

Here are some prices we found online

I even took the initiative and effort to visit electronic stores around my locality in search for best prices. Finally, in the beginning of week 5 we bought the camera with great difficulty (due to just one being in stock and the timing of delivery). Soon after, we started arranging for props needed for the scene. We tried our best to replicate the concept art and its asset placement. The bedroom we chose was very similar to the bedroom concept art design - it had the window on the right, ceiling lamp was very similar, a wall in the front where we could pin up posters, etc.

According to our initial pitch, this scene would have a poster/card on the wall that reminds the viewer of the dream they had. So as a last minute plan, I sketched and painted a portrait of Dalia and Myself as the White and Red Queens from Alice In Wonderland (2010). It turned out pretty good fr a last minute plan, that I did in around 4 hours. So we are going to print this in A1 to post on the wall.

We scheduled the shoot for the 23rd of October, and got posters printed from our past trimesters’ projects.

By the end of the week, we showed the video and all the last minute preparation we did for reviewing. The idea and test trials were approved. However, the poster wasn’t. The idea being that the characters aren’t in the film, which is true. So since this was just a test trial, we decided to wait for the final poster from our graphic designer, Rabbiah Khan, who we scheduled a meeting on the upcoming Monday. We gave her our idea and she would take a week or two to work on it. Till then, we will have to keep this on hold.
