Our Production Pipeline

From the research on production pipelines done in the previous post, our team has to implement each of these different roles into our own workflow by splitting tasks between three members. In order to do this, we had to identify each other's strengths and weaknesses, and use them to benefit off as a team.

Knowing my capabilities, I took up the task of doing majority of the conceptual work including the sketches for the sushi and the main character (see below). I also researched on image references for the outlook of our scene and basically took artistic control over the team. Throughout the trimester, I will be working mainly on bringing my character into a 3-dimensional realm and giving her life from my imagination. Hence, I would be the main concept artist and "art director" of the project.

Management Strategies

During week 6, we also had some structural changes made to our team. I had to undertake the Leadership role (once again), which meant that I had to restructure the production deadline sheet and assign tasks to fit within our production time.

Considering how we spent way too much time on pre-production and will need around 2 weeks for post-production, I had to squeeze our production time by assigning daily deadlines. I sent out emails clearly stating what each member had to do and gave out instructions accordingly as well.

The management strategies we implemented were more versatile. Since the leadership role was handed to me and I already had a couple of tasks pending from my end, we collectively decided to split the management tasks among the ones who were capable of handling it. Hence, most of the documentation would be split amongst us rather than just one person being burdened with it all. However, the Gantt chart schedule was on me and I had to assign tasks, refine deadlines and keep a more tighter schedule from this week on. The Gantt chart was mainly done on Google Sheets and was shared with everyone as view only.

Collaboration Progress:

I have managed to finish modelling two characters with clothes variations for the games team. While they loved it, they also asked for gun models in very low basic form. They even stated that the gun doesn’t have to be functional, but just serve as a prop for the characters. Hence, I got started on that.

Wednesday:

In Rashed’s class, we completed the run cycle and started working on a jump animation and a back-flip landing animation. Learning about setting the basic key frames in stepped curve articulates the precision for speed and blocking. We also worked on some posing with the luke character as we did from the start of the trimester.

Overall, my role within the team is to lead them into the right artistic direction while concepting and creating 3D models of my ideas. I will also be taking charge on most of the post production as I have experience with editing and colour corrections.
