I'm slightly happier that we are finally getting into some productive work from this week. I was able to put together a shot list with three acts and convert our 2D animatic into 3D. What's amazing is that we got it approved as well, which mean two out of the three deliverables are done this trimester. It's weird to think that things are going the way they should be, but I'm not going to let my guard down so easily.
3D animatic
This 3D animatic was made by me, although all the assets were given by Amos. Right now, we have the overall pacing with timing for the animations and flow of events clearly visible in this animatic.
Watch the 3D animatic below:
What surprised me when I was creating the shot list based from the 2D animatic and storyboards, was the fact that I unknowingly had the three act structure incorporated in the story. Well, to be very frank, I created the story through listening to the songs and created the visual beats from the audio sample given to us by Raihan.
It surprised me as I was trying to structure it all out in a document (see below) in order to keep tabs on how many overall shots we will have to create. This helps a lot in delegating tasks as an Animation lead and planning out the timeline better. What also surprised me was that each ACT has around 9 to 10 shots which makes its easier to split tasks - all were done without properly thinking it out!

Advisor Meeting - Monday
In our advisory meeting, we got the animatic approved and were tasked with creating moodboards, concepts and modelsheets by next week. Bing also asked me to create a Whatsapp group with Amos as well so that we can remain in the loop and share our work easily.
Moodboards
Here are the moodboards I put together (and got approved):
(Persichetti, B., Ramsey, P., Rothman, R., Lord, P., Arad, A., Pascal, A., Miller, C, 2019) (Fernandes, 2020) (Turbosquid (2020)
In overall, these are the moodboards we have on our running presentation:
We are still waiting an approval for the Police officer moodboard which is to be done by Amos.
Concepts
We had to set a benchmark for the style we wanted to go for. From the looks of it, we initially wanted to go for a comic book style effect rendered using Vray Toon shader but will have 3D models made in 3Ds max (see image on the right).

This hybridity has connections with Into the Spiderverse (2018) because of their innovative technique in mixing 3D with 2D elements. Our character - also coincidentally named 'Miles' - has close resemblance with Miles from Into the Spiderverse (2018).
On the topic about Miles, we had a meeting with the cast who auditioned and showed great interest in our project. I wanted to meet him to have a look at his features so that i could create the concepts based off of him. Below is a screenshot of the meeting we had with him. I also took snaps of him to have some reference to work with.

Hence, based off of him, here are the concepts I worked on, drawing inspirations from Into the Spiderverse (2018).

I'll be working on the model sheet after receiving feedback on these concepts. I hope all goes well and according to plan. Hoping for a more productivity this following week.
