This week, being the week of my presentation, was an extremely intriguing topic. I am not saying this because of the topic I have chosen but the concepts and ideas discussed in the online lecture was very constructive in helping me create a good presentation. My presentation was a massive success from the feedback I received in class and the research information that was conveyed in the first research document.

Toxicity in Kpop Fans and Fandoms from a Post structural Lens by Leighanne Fernandes DUB11830

This was a video presentation that I edited with my own voiceover in After Effects. The videos have all been referenced. The script was based off of the research document with minor changes to fit the timing and pacing. Overall, I am pretty pleased at how it turned out.

Before the video was shown, I explained a few terms that would have been new or unknown to the class so as to not waste time in explaining this in the video. They are as follows.

A slide from my presentation

As i was presenting, a lot of students in the class were engaging in a conversation in the comments section. It was interesting to see all the comments talk about the way I presented the ideas and what ideas were being discussed in the video as well. I saved the chat for reference, here's a snippet of what the conversation looked like:

My response: Hey guys, i just read all the comments and thank you so much for all the lovely comments! Im glad you enjoyed it! It was very triggering to research on this but i hope it made it worth the watch!

I really love how fun the conversations were, ranging from tea to how messed up people can really be. That lead to an interesting discussion on how its not the fans and fandoms thats the problem but the idea of how Idolism is perceived, celebrity worship and how some fans become extremely fanatic due to some psychological issues (which is present in every fandom, not just Kpop). All these points were discussed in my video presentation.

I think the most important giveaway I took from this presentation was the open minded response of the class. Weeks leading up to the presentation, i remember bringing up talks about Kpop and felt some of the class didn't fully understand the idea or would think Kpop is trash based on their understanding of it. I was really hoping that people get a good insight into this presentation but also tried to make it interesting to watch by providing content that most people wouldn't know about such as the controversies around a certain thing (which is always interesting, no matter what!). I was extremely glad to see that so many people found this interesting, especially the ones who didn't know about Kpop or had a weird understanding of it.

Post class

Since my presentation is over, I will be focussing my attention on working towards our second assignment which is a Creative media project as a group, For now, we have a very interesting idea which is to role play a skit with four selected characters from the movies IT, A Quiet Place, Bird Box and Autopsy of Jane Doe for our project on THE BEAUTY OF HORROR. We intend to make the script comedic and showcase sides of us that can be funny, while conveying the idea of what makes mediated violence in horror so aesthetic and pleasing to watch. The reason why we chose to make it funny with a darker theme is because it can be targeted to a vast audience especially those that do not watch horror films to "lure them" (like Pennywise from IT) into the world of horror films.
